Hi Support
for ee4
how can i setup an event that happens every week
once this week’s event is done – i would like the same event displayed and open for registration for next week, with registrations closing when full or the day before
which ever happens first
registrations are free and need the name of each person

in looking at the documentation – i can’t seem to find out about weekly events
thanks
Darrell

Hi Darrell,

‘Weekly’ events are consider ‘recurring’ events, which currently Event Espresso does not officially support in that you can’t create an event and say ‘this event repeated for the next X weeks’ but you can manually create something similar depend on the requirements.

How many ticket options for each day are there? I’m guessing just a single ticket type as you mentioned its free.

How long does the event run for and how many ‘instances’ (weeks) does it run?

I’m guessing based on the fact that you want ‘the same event displayed’ that you don’t want the URL of the event to change?

Hi Tony,
sorry for the delay – i seemed to be caught in a loop where the system kept asking me to login before i could respond – then would auto log me out

ok – recurring events
yes only 1 ticket type which is free
the would like to run the event for the month – then make any changes for the following month – but it could setup for like 3 months or 12 times
yes the event is at the same location – i am not sure of the significance of the event url the same of changing, i would need registration to be unique for each event and the ability to print out registration names for each event

thanks
Darrell

The problem with trying to keep all of those options in a single event with the current editor is it starts to get a little messy. All of the datetimes will continue to show and all of the tickets (each datetime is going to need a separate ticket). As they are ‘inputs’ on the page it means you’ll also hit your servers max_input_vars limit (default of 1000) which can be updated to allow for more on your server.

It would mean you can just link to the same place for each event, for example:

http://www.domain.com/events/some-weekly-event/

You would have things like

http://www.domain.com/events/some-weekly-event/
http://www.domain.com/events/some-weekly-event-2/
http://www.domain.com/events/some-weekly-event-3/

(The URLs above can be changes, but point being you cant more than 1 event with the same URL)

i would need registration to be unique for each event and the ability to print out registration names for each event

Ok, so this means you need them to be separate events, not just a single event with multiple datetimes.

Each event will need to be manually created as a unique event. You could create the ‘first’ event as a template and then use the duplicate button to create each new instance and change the relevant details, that’ll help reduce the admin work a little.

Before getting into details, may I ask how you are planning on displaying the event(s) on the site itself? For example, how are you wanting to link people to go to this ‘series’?

woow – this is more involved than i thought
i think i will duplicate the event and add the calendar date to identify each
thanks for your guidance

Yeah, recurring events sound simple but quickly become more involved.

i think i will duplicate the event and add the calendar date to identify each

That should work fine.
