Hi, I’m looking for a way to require people who register for an event to complete payment. I found a few threads (including this from Jan 2011: https://eventespresso.com/forums/2011/01/automatic-handling-of-paypal/), where EE staff said this feature was coming in the next update. However, I can’t find the feature within the plugin. Can you tell me if this feature has been added? If not, is there a way to customize the code to force people to pay for registration? Thanks! Hello, The post you referred to is almost 2 years old. We now have a function that allows you to skip the confirmation page and go straight to the payment page. This is under General Settings. There isn’t functionality that forces a payment, though. If the payment isn’t completed, the status will show as “Incomplete” in the dashboard. |

I realize how old the post is. That’s why I figured this update had been implemented. We have been using the skip confirmation page feature. The problem is that spambots have been spamming our registration forms. I know that activating the CAPTCHA should take care of that (although I’d prefer not to, for our users’ experience), but forcing people to pay would solve both issues. For what it’s worth, I think forcing payment would be a useful feature and hope you’ll reconsider adding it! |
Hi there, It might help to clarify what was actually added. Back when that post in the old forums was applicable, all registrations that were added into the system (paid or unpaid) were marked as complete in the admin. You can imagine that this would have been a fair amount of work to sort this out! So starting with Event Espresso 3.1, it was changed so that when a registration gets entered into the system, its default status is incomplete. When a registration is incomplete, it doesn’t fill one of the available spaces. Once the payment is set as complete (either automatically by the payment gateway payment notification or manually by an admin) the registration counts toward the limit. This allows for the flexibility that many users of Event Espresso require: An option to pay later. If you’re having trouble with spam registrations, you can have your server administrator install the apache mod_security module. Chris wrote a blog post about how to reduce spam registrations in the blog that I recommend checking out: https://eventespresso.com/2012/08/protecting-your-events-against-spam/ |

Thanks for the extra info. I did check with our host (HostGator) who confirmed mod_security was already enabled. I’ll check out this article, and likely switch on reCAPTCHA. |
