Was an option to disable double optin for Mailchimp ever added?

From a thread last year: https://eventespresso.com/topic/disable-double-optin-with-mailchimp/

“Was just looking into this really quick. If you wanted to hack it until we have a chance to add the option field. You can edit the MCAPI.class.php file at line #1567 of the Mailchimp addon. …..”

It sounds like an option field was going to be added to allow this, so we wouldn’t need to hack the code. Has this ever been added?

Thanks!

Hi kstern,

That option was not added, I am un-sure as to why currently however one thing stands out when viewing the code

* @param bool $double_optin optional flag to control whether a double opt-in confirmation message is sent, defaults to true. <em>Abusing this may cause your account to be suspended.</em>

EE try to follow best practices/standards as much as possible, including options that could close your account on third party services such as these may well be options best left hidden.

I was not a part of the original discussion involving this so this is not the ‘official standing’ but rather my own opinion.

I’ve opened a ticket to discuss this with a note to update this thread with the outcome.

For the time being I would recommend following the advice from the thread linked if you wish to remove the double opt-in email 🙂

It seems that the best option would be to include during registration an opt-in question for the event registrants. This would follow email broadcast protocol and avoid the extra email confirmation loop. Our main objective is to use MailChimp to manage email communication to our event attendees. Relying on the opt-in email confirmation loop triggered by MailChimp is not ideal. Furthermore, manual import of the list seems old school.

We should have a version 1.3-dev of the mailchimp add-on out in the pre-release channel later today. You’ll see an option in the mailchimp admin page for registration form opt-in. It’s only been coded for non-MER reg process right now.

@sidney: What do you mean by ‘non-MER reg process’?

Hi,

None MER means it will not work correctly with registrations done via Multiple Event Registration (MER) addon, which is the cart functionality.
