When i am trying to update any of these Event Espresso plugins:

– Event Espresso
– Event Espresso – Members Addon
– Event Espresso – Recurring Events
– Event Espresso – Ticketing

I get this warning:

Warning: ucwords() expects parameter 1 to be string, array given in /nas/wp/www/staging/calgaryski/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/class/pue/pue-client.php on line 80

Could you please provide me some support?

Hi Sarah,

Can you try deactivating all of the Event Espresso add-ons first, then update Event Espresso 3 to the current version? After that, you should be able to update to the newer versions of the add-ons.

If the above does not work, please let me know the exact version number of each plugin you have installed so I can investigate further.

I am using WordPress 4.0, and here is the exact version number for each plugin i have installed:

You have version 3.1.27.1.P installed.

Event Espresso – Members Addon
You have version 1.9.4 installed.

Event Espresso – Recurring Events
You have version 1.1.7 installed.

Event Espresso – Ticketing
You have version 2.0.8 installed.

Hi Sarah,

These warnings are occurring as your software is out of date. Please backup your WordPress site and update to the current software:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/updating-event-espresso/#update_manually

PUE is our update engine. However appears that your version is too old for automatic updates via PUE.

The steps in the link above will show you how to manually update Event Espresso 3. Once you are on the current version, please reactivate your add-ons and then try to update those as well.

You can see a list of changes since your version on this page:

Hello,

Josh, I deactivated all of the Event Espresso add-ons first, then updated Event Espresso 3 to the latest version… but because there was another versions of Event Expresso installed i got an error at the end of the process saying that the process could be completed

Lorenzo, I followed the steps in the link… I deactivated and delete the old version of Event Espresso… but once I deleted Event Espresso, i got a White screen and i cannot access to WP-admin site anymore… All i can see is a White screen with no menus/options at all.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi, did the site break while the plugin was being removed? At that point it was not running so that should not have occurred.

Are you familiar with an SFTP or an SFTP client such as FileZilla or Cyberduck?

If so, please browse to this location on your site using one of those clients:

/wp-content/plugins

Then locate the event-espresso folder and rename it to event-espresso1. That should fully deactivate the plugin.

If you do not see a folder like that, then let us know.

Hello Lorenzo,

Thanks for you answer… I also tried exactly what you are proposing yesterday (using FileZila), and unfortunately I got the exactly same white screen after renaming the Event Espresso Plugin folder. Also I didn’t have access to WP-admin site anymore.

Any guess?

Thanks

Hi Sarah,

Can you activate WP_Debug and see what error is being thrown on the white screen please?

Hello,

After enabling WP_Debug…. Here is the errors that are being thrown on the whitescreen:

Hi, there may be some custom coding that is causing an issue when Event Espresso is deactivated. The following steps should work.

First the must use plugins will be deactivated. Then you’ll deactivate all Event Espresso software and relocate it. Then you’ll deactivate all remaining plugins before re-installing Event Espresso and restoring the must use plugins.

Temporarily deactivate must use plugins
Login to your site with your SFTP or FTP client.

Browse to this location:

/wp-content/mu-plugins

Change the folder to mu-plugins1

This will deactivate all of those must use plugins.

Backup your existing software

Then browse to this location:

/wp-content

Create a folder there called event-espresso-backup

Then browse to this location:

/wp-content/plugins

Look for the event-espresso folder and drag it one level above the plugins folder so its here:

wp-content/event-espresso

Then move it to the new folder that you recently created:

/wp-content/event-espresso-backup/event-espresso

Repeat this process for all remaining Event Espresso add-ons.

Now login to your WordPress dashboard. You’ll see some notices that some plugins have been deactivated. This is okay for now as they will be reactivated shortly.

Now browse to the WordPress –> Plugins. You should see that Event Espresso and its add-ons are missing since you have relocated them to the event-espresso-backup folder that you created.

Now deactivate all remaining plugins by selecting them and deactivating them.

Download the latest software from your account page

Get the latest version of Event Espresso and add-ons from here:

https://eventespresso.com/users/calski2014/#ee3-downloads

Each will be downloaded to your computer as a .zip file.

Return to your WordPress Plugins page and go to Add New and then Upload.

Now upload each zip file and activate it. When you are done, you should have the latest version of Event Espresso 3 running along with its add-ons.

Restore must use plugins and remaining plugins

Go back to your SFTP or FTP client and browse here:

wp-content/mu-plugins1

Restore the name of the plugin folder back to mu-plugins

Then go to your WordPress dashboard and it should still work. You can then go to WordPress Plugins and reactivate all remaining plugins to finish restoring your site.

Let us know if this helps.
