Waiting List – Multiple Events

Hello,
I have a client using EventEspresso who needs the waiting list function setup for their overflow events. I have set this up for them and it’s working. However, they have many (100+) events and would like the waiting list applied to each of them. So setting up a waiting list for every event would be crazy.

These events are not recurring but are rather grouped within 4 main topics. Is there a way to setup one waiting list for each of these main topics. Then have the user submit a waiting list registration form for one of the events within the topic and have that event info attached to their submission?

Running 3.1.30.7.P

Thanks,
Ian

Hi Ian —

The way the waiting lists were built to work is that they are basically events that are not active or published yet. When an event (primary event) fills up and has an overflow event assigned, attendees that opt to add their name to the waiting list event are actually registering for that event (though no payment is being taken yet, since that event isn’t active yet — basically it’s an event that’s waiting for enough attendees to justify its existence). The theory is, if you get enough people signing up for this waiting list event, you can then turn the waiting list event into an actual public (primary) event, and then send out a notification to everyone who registered asking for payment.

That’s not necessarily the way you have to use it though. What I’ve suggested elsewhere for this same sort of issue is to create your 4 separate waiting list events for your 4 main topics. All the events that are in each of those topics have the waitlist event for that topic assigned. Then you’re basically using the waiting list event to gather email addresses. When you want to get those people to sign up for a new event, or a new batch of events, you can send an email to all attendees saying “registration for My awesome event has now re-opened you can go here to sign up” with the link pointing to the registration page, or an event list, or wherever you want to send them.

Hello Chris,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I need a waiting list to be specific to each particular event. I don’t this this will work for that.

Best,
Ian

If you need a waiting list for each specific event, then you will need to create a waiting list event for each specific event and manually assign that waiting list event to the event.
