Hello. Question about the Wait List. I don’t have the Wait List Add-On installed. I just checked and I only have Event Espresso plus the Calendar Add-On (EE 4.3+) installed and activated. However, a short while ago a customer registered for an event and for the first time, I saw the Purple indicator color. When I checked their registration I saw that they’d registered with a gift card and they were put on a wait list. How is this possible without having the Wait List |

Hello. I have a question about the Wait List. How is this possible without having the Wait List Add-On installed/activated? And how can I disable it? More info: The event had 12 available seats. 11 had already been purchased, and this customer used a gift card to register 2 more. Because it was only 1 more over the max, I’ve authorized both registrations, but I want to avoid this in the future. Thank you. Steve |
Hi, The reason for the wait list status is to prevent the event from overselling. This is a core feature, the wait list add-on only adds a way for the wait list registrations to be added via a form and a way for those wait list registrations to be promoted to regular registrations if spaces open up later. The feature to prevent overselling cannot really be disabled. If you want to allow the event to oversell by 1, what you could do is set a limit of 13 for an event with 12 available seats. |

Thanks for the response, Josh, but I don’t completely understand. What makes this situation different from the typical scenario which we see almost daily where a customer who wants to buy more tickets than are available just won’t be able to? Something must make this instance different – otherwise this wouldn’t be the first time I’ve seen a purple Wait List registration in two years of EE use. Is it the fact that they used a Gift Card? If not, can you explain further why this may be the first time I’ve seen this? Thanks, Steve |
The factor is timing. The Wait List status assignment only happens if/when there were other registrations happening at the same moment in time for the same event and someone else secured the last ticket. |

Ah, okay. That makes sense. Thanks for explaining further, Josh. I appreciate it. |
