Hi there,

This may not be possible, but I’m giving it a try ๐Ÿ™‚

We are getting closer to our event which is an exhibition, and we were wondering if we could provide a badge scanning facility for our exhibitors for them to see who visited their stand.

In the past, this feature was included in our contract with the registration company, but we’re doing it all in-house this year.

We will use the Event Espresso app to scan tickets as organisers, but naturally we wouldn’t want exhibitors to have access to the same information as us, or to be able to check-in/check-out guests when scanning their badge. Is it possible to create a sort of non-admin account for them to log-in with on the app and literally just scan the badges for names/companies?

Thanks!

Yes the scanning part is possible by installing the Application Passwords plugin. You wound not even need to create a new account.

However, if they use one of the EE4 mobile apps to scan the tickets that were for access to the exhibition, that data that gets captured isn’t going to tell them who visited their stand.

What you could do instead is add a custom QR code to the badges that has all the attendee information you want the exhibitors to have, and then they can use a generic qr scanner app to scan the badge. Ideally the scanner app you choose will have a data collection feature.

Here’s a guide that shows how to add a custom QR code to the ticket/badge:

Hi Josh,

Thanks for the advice. I tried using the shortcode, which contains the first name, last name and email address, and the qr code is now generated on my ticket.

However, when I scan the code, it only gives me the first name. I copied the shortcode exactly as it is in the post you sent me…Any ideas why? Thanks!

That’s happening because of the spaces between the shortcodes, you will need to url encode them so use:

<img src="http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?cht=qr&chs=200x200&chl=[RECIPIENT_FNAME]%20[RECIPIENT_LNAME]%20[RECIPIENT_EMAIL]&chld=H|0" alt="QR Code" />

That should then work as expected.

Magic. Works perfectly. Thanks!
