Users registered for events they didn't sign up for

I have had some new events recently that have mysteriously had former clients registered for them. They show as approved and even paid, although the customers have not actually signed up, nor has a payment been processed.

Have you seen this happen before? What could be causing this?

Any help is appreciated. Please let me know what additional details I can provide.

I have actually seen this happen and the cause was some of the database tables used by Event Espresso had been reset/cleared, and other tables continued to retain the old data. The result was some of the old data would be attached to new registrations.
