User restrictions don't seem to be restricting.

Hi,

This is probably an easy one but i have tried the WP user integration and followed the docs but it doesnt seem to do what i want.

Currently i force everyone to register for the website before they join an event. Which works fine, but now we are offering ‘follow on’ events for people who have registered for a previous event.

I spotted the ‘restrict access to this content’ and ticked to allow my members only to view, but when i’ve tested this i have been able to view the event as a guest then login as a user with the ‘subscriber’ role and still register for the event.

I half expected that setting it to members only would hide the event from anybody who was not in the ‘members’ role but this doesnt seem to be the case. If i can view the event as a guest then register for it and join as a subscriber then i don’t understand why the content restrictions are there?

In short i want to hide the event completely from guests and subscribers. Perhaps i am missing something?

If that is not how the content restriction settings work, how easy would it be in theory to restrict access to a specific group? not user roles, but a BuddyPress group? i have one for all my members who have attended a course previously.

I can cope with the WordPress loop, which would be a preferred way of doing it (i think).

Anyway, if someone could point me in the right direction or explain the user restrictions a little more to me so i can try and restrict the access to these events it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

PhilB

Hi PhilB,

May I ask what’s the name of the plugin on your site that adds the “restrict access to this content” checkbox? The WP User Integration add-on does not add that feature.

One way you can use the WP User Integration add-on to restrict tickets is you set the tickets to require a user capability that only your members have. This way, a subscriber-level member will not be able to buy those tickets.

Hi Josh!

I feel a bit silly, I’m not sure which plugin is in use. I think it may have been inherited when i started working on the website. I will look into that.

As for the link you provided, i never even realised that was available if I’m honest. I never came across that during my searching. Thank you, I’ll look into that now.

Thanks Josh, appreciate your time.

Phil

Hi Josh, sorry for the double post. Just wanted to get back and say i think the plugin for the content controls is the ‘members’ plugin we use to create some extra roles for our coaches. Cant really disable that one without adding them in manually i suppose. Just thought id post that.

I wasn’t suggesting that you should disable it. It’s fine to leave that plugin activated, you should be aware that it doesn’t restrict access to event content though.
