User registers multiple times with email confirmation but not in attendee list?

Good afternoon,

A user on our site registered multiple (3) times and we received email notification of such at the primary contact email, however none of the registrations appear in the attendee list.

Additionally, last week I personally registered two groups (additional attendee) and did not receive email notification on either. Actually we haven’t received nearly as many notifications as we have in the past.

Nothing has changed on our WP or EE site in weeks, with the exception of adding a new registration type.

Thanks in advance.

Update: For some reason about half of the notifications were being dumped into Gmail spam.

Tony – Received notification of your registration and you’re in the attendee list.

Hi,

I just made a couple of registrations, (Test and Test2) did these come through?

Good morning. Yes, your two tests appear in the attendee list. If I were to provide access to our site would that be useful?

Hi,

When you added the registrations, did you also complete payment to finish the registration?

The reason I ask is that if you start a registration and then backtrack (click back), then the original registration will be erased. There are some warnings in place that should prevent you from easily moving back.

Hi Lorenzo,

I didn’t make those registrations – someone attending our event did.

I just registered myself clicking submit, then confirming, then clicked the back button only to confirm again – the result is two emails with the same Registration ID but only one entry in the attendee list (this makes sense). Up to this point I have been unable to recreate the problem but I did find an additional attendee this has occurred with.

The attendee in question (that I am aware of) has three separate Registration IDs (based on the email confirmation) but does not appear in the attendee list.

Brangers (no appearance in attendee list)
4-53d7cf865e199
4-53d7cbdfe3520
4-53d7caffec7b2

Haycraft
4-53d7cd54a59b2 (appears in attendee list)
4-53d7d023b8dd2 (does NOT appear in attendee list)

Now I’m genuinely concerned we might have registrations falling through the cracks.

Those attendees may have clicked back and then clicked okay to the warning which would overwrite the original registrations.

I’m not sure that I have correctly explained the issue.

A visitor comes to the site and fills out the form on the registration details page and clicks the submit button.
The visitor is then presented with his/her collected information and must click the confirm button to actually register.
Upon submitting the confirm button, they get an email, I get an email, and they appear in the attendee list.

If I use my browser’s back button after clicking the confirm button, I’m prompted to stay on the page because my information will be overwritten.
So I click the back button anyway and confirm my registration a second time – a second email to the registrant is sent as is a second email to me. And I only show up in the attendee list once (both email confirmations have the same Registration ID).

THE ISSUE IS:
I have two separate visitors that managed to register MORE THAN ONCE (different Registration ID in the confirmation emails) but their registrations fail to appear in the attendee list.

Hi, I do understand the checkout flow that you described prior:

https://eventespresso.com/topic/user-registers-multiple-times-with-email-confirmation-but-not-in-attendee-list/#post-109594

With that mentioned, back tracking on a registration and then completing it will send out a registration email.

However, the attendee won’t be recorded in the WordPress dashboard because the original registration information which is stored in a session has been destroyed.

Try going here:

http://www.kesc.us/registration-cancelled/

That will end any open registrations for your web browser. Then try completing another registration as if you were the attendee who has missing information.

Then please share your findings here so we can continue working on this.

Thanks

Thank you for the reply Lorenzo.

I don’t understand how, after someone confirms the registration (thus generating the email notifications) their submission vaporizes. With all the testing I’ve done, when the confirm button is clicked it doesn’t matter if they navigate back and confirm again and again and again because they’re in the attendee list.

I just went to the /registration-canceled/ page. Went to register a new attendee, submitted the form, confirmed the form, received confirmation email, navigated back (acknowledged browser prompt), confirmed a second time, received second confirmation email with same Registration ID.

The missing information is not on the public side, its on the Event Overview > Attendees. They just don’t show up even when I have the list set to show all and retrieve all. The only evidence we have of the person ever registering is from the email confirmation.

When you start a registration, the information is stored in something called a php session. It holds onto your registration until the registration is completed or until 2 hours have passed and then it expires on its own.

When the back track occurs, the original registration is overwritten with a new one (this is what we found in testing and why we added the prompt warning).

Can I go ahead and send a registration through?

This would be under the name eetest.

If you prefer to test on a specific event, then please share that link.

Thanks

Lorenzo

Please go ahead. I’d be happy to talk on the phone and/or also do a screen share.

Lorenzo,

The eetest user is recorded.

I found another attendee for which I have email confirmation but no appearance in the attendee list. He was found because he mailed a check payment but I couldn’t find him in the attendee list so I searched emails and located him.

This is very frustrating.

Make that four additional. Appears to have been a group registration. Cannot search for them in the attendee list to record payment. Something is wrong here.

Now it just happened to me and I know how do do this (been using EE for three years now).

I entered three individual registrations. I confirmed each and even downloaded PDF copies of the offline invoice. Only one of the three is showing up on the attendee list.

Hi dchandler,

Downloading the PDF invoices for the registration does not close the session, so just to clarify on each of those registrations did you also click the ‘Complete your registration’ link? – http://take.ms/CDiou

Or just click back (closing the warning) and place the next registration?

Good morning Tony,

I clicked neighter the Complete your registration link (referenced in the screen shot) nor the back button. After I downloaded the PDF invoice, I click the WP registration link at the top of the page and started the registration process from the start as though I had never visited before.

That’s the reason the registration is being overwritten.

To explain a little so you can understand what’s happening I’ll walk through the registration process.

User A clicks on Event 1 and inputs their details.
A ‘session’ is created for that registration. (for simplicity we’ll say the session_id is 1111 – in reality is much longer and much more complex)
So then on the Registration confirmation page the user confirms.
EE then adds the registration to the database, including the session_id and then sends the confirmation emails.
Now the users is shown the payment page and the session is still open (because if the user pays the session_id is used to identify the registration)

So now we are at the Payment Overview with a Session ID of 1111.
The Registration has been added to the Database, and the session id used as an Identifier.

If you then Navigate away from the page without closing this session EE does not know this should be a different registration.

So then User A goes to Event 2 and registers, EE uses the Session ID to update the registration info in the database…. because the session_id is the same EE will actually overwrite the previous registration. So EE updates the row in the Database with the current session, which is 1111 (which currently has the previous registration)

The same is also true if the user is registering multiple users on the same Event. User A, User B, User C. User C is the only registration that is stored as it was the last entry, overwriting the previous ones.

To prevent this the user needs to close the session, they do this through the payment gateways. So even if selecting Invoice, they need to click the ‘Complete your registration’ link highlighted previously to close the current session and start a new one.

I appreciate you taking the time to explain the registration process. We haven’t had this problem the last two years so I’m left wondering what changed. I do think having to click that last link for the invoice payments is NOT intuitive and a critical flaw in the design of the software.

Now I need to comb through emails and search out folks who failed to click that link so we’re not embarassed when they show up at our event without a registration.

Here is a link to that page on our site – its not intuitive. http://screencast.com/t/9HSF5QaZl

Hi there,

When you try to navigate away from the Thank You page before clicking the finalize link (for example, if you hit the back button), do you see a warning that pops up that says your registration will be overwritten if you leave the page?
