User confusion about registering and checkout

We have a button at the bottom of this page that reads “Register for this Event”

When clicked, on modern browsers the button changes to “View Cart”, on older browsers, the full page refreshes and the user doesn’t know to scroll down to click “View Cart” to continue the checkout.

Both of these are problematic because the demographic of this site is older and they are really confused.

Is there a short code that will allow the user to click “Register for this Event” and be taken directly to the cart screen without any further clicks?

My issue resides on this screen…

Note the direct_to_cart parameter? that is the one that will redirect the user to the cart page.
