A customer forgot to apply a discount code to a 2-person registration, so I followed the advice here:
https://eventespresso.com/topic/applying-discount-code-after-registration/ and it was effective.

However, somehow my admin email address and WP account became associated with the customer’s registration. If I create a new account for her and register her for a free ticket to the same event, will it be possible to associate her with her colleague’s registration? Or is there a better method to fix this?

That would happen only if the WP Users integration add-on is activated, and its “Always sync contact information with WP user profile?” option was set to Yes at the time the registration was updated.

Her account should still present in WP > Users, so what you can do is go in to edit the Contact record in Event Espresso > Registrations and in WP > Users so it has the correct information.

Yes, the WP Users integration was activated. But her account is no longer there in WP > Users (I may have deleted it in a panic). What would you do to fix this?

You can re-add an account for her. Then install and use the User Switching plugin to switch to that user account, then re-register.

That’s what I’m thinking. I guess there’s no way to re-associate her registration with her colleague’s registration, then.

Not if they each have a WP user account and you want the registration to be displayed within her respective user account.
