Urgent – Unsupported URL Error

So we realized this morning that we never added the support key to our website so the app wouldn’t let us scan tickets.

I added the support key and it all shows up on event espresso etc. We can auot update and everything but the apps on our iPad still give the unsupported URL error.

I tried downloading the app on my cell phone, and it works for checking tickets in and so does the barcode scanner add on on the website.

Please advise on what is wrong and why all of our iPads are still giving the unsupported URL error even though using the same login information it works to check in from my phone.

The domain is sunflowerfestivalpa.com if that helps.

After trying on somebody else’s phone using the same login the same error “unsupported URL” appears. Not sure if it matters, these are all iOS devices having issues. My phone is an Android device and the only one working to scan in tickets at this time.

Hi there,

So we realized this morning that we never added the support key to our website so the app wouldn’t let us scan tickets.

The license key has no effect on EE’s functionality, it is used for support and one-click updates, so not having the key on the site would not prevent you from scanning tickets.

After trying on somebody else’s phone using the same login the same error “unsupported URL” appears. Not sure if it matters, these are all iOS devices having issues.

What exact text are you adding to the Website URL field?

Based on the above I’m assuming just sunflowerfestivalpa.com?

Try https://sunflowerfestivalpa.com and see if you get the same problem.

Your site currently serves both HTTP connections: http://sunflowerfestivalpa.com/

And also HTTPS connections: https://sunflowerfestivalpa.com/

You really want one or the other which would normally mean redirecting all HTTP connections to HTTPS (as you would want it the other way around).

How did you enable HTTPS on the site? It looks like the app is having trouble negotiating the correct URL, when you add a domain it tries to figure out if your site has HTTPS enabled or not and uses that for the requests, the above may be causing an issue with that on the iOS devices (although that would be strange).

Alright, we tried adding https://sunflower festivalPA.com to the URL field and it’s returning the same problem.

You can see we did fix the issue and we are now only serving the secure version of the site.

Hi,

May I ask what’s the version of the Event Espresso app installed on your iOS device when you try to connect to https://sunflowerfestivalpa.com?

I’ll try and get the exact version number for you, but I updated it and even uninstalled, restarted and re-installed to make sure it got the latest version from the app store.

It is version 2.6.5

That’s the correct version, thanks for checking. We’ve seen it once before where the JSON response from the site had an error that only affected the iOS app (the Android app ignored it).

If you can complete the secure form on this page, we can investigate further.
