When I edit my event venuses, the only option appears to be Canada. PHP Version: 5.5.38 MySQL Version: 5.5.51 Event Espresso Version: 4.9.37.p WordPress Address (URL): http://kellycoevents.com/wpk Site address (URL): http://kellycoevents.com |
Hi there, You’ll need to activate the USA option first, by going to Event Espresso > General Settings > Countries. Then you select United States at the top of the page, then you set Country Appears in Dropdown Select Lists to Yes. Then you click save. |

Nice Josh, So this is an initial setting, I think was setup several years ago, and has not changed, still shows USA, but only option in venues is Canada. |
|
Look I love Canada, but we can’t afford to move our Event venues to Canada, we are located in Florida, a million miles from Canada, and where most of our events are scheduled. |
Did you actually set Country Appears in Dropdown Select Lists to Yes for the United States, then save? It seems that someone set that to No on your site. Otherwise your venue Country select list would include an option for selecting United States. |

Ok, I checked again, and while USA was selected, the option from display in dropdown list had changed from yes to no. Looks like a recent EE software update may have changed this. |
|
If all my venues are in the USA, why do I need to set the dropdown list? |

This is what the Country Settings page states. Countries and States/Provinces Select Country United States “The country that is selected above will populate the Country Details settings and the options for States/Provinces. This information will be used throughout Event Espresso including for registration purposes and how currency is displayed. If you make a change to the country on this page, it is important that you also update your Contact Information on the Your Organization tab.” There should be no need to set the dropdown list. |
The setting is a feature because not everyone using Event Espresso is using it in the United States. Just like you don’t use Event Espresso in Canada. So if you haven’t already done so, when you’re viewing the United States settings page you’ll set Country Appears in Dropdown Select Lists to Yes for the United States, then save. Then you can select Canada, then you’ll set Country Appears in Dropdown Select Lists to No, then save. |

Hi Josh, “The country that is selected above will populate the Country Details settings and the options for States/Provinces. This information will be used throughout Event Espresso including for registration purposes and how currency is displayed. If you make a change to the country on this page, it is important that you also update your Contact Information on the Your Organization tab.” There should be zero need to add the USA to any additional drop-down list, unless you are using the system for events across country borders. I expect every country input box to be pre-loaded with USA For the majority of users, I suspect they will be operating within the bounds of 1 country, so the text as stated should be correct. But whomever designed the system, did not really design it the way the text implies, in fact, if you don’t add the USA to the drop-down, you don’t get the States drop-down lists activated, even though they are displayed by the initial country selection? You might want to reconsider either the design, or adjusting the text advice to reflect how the system really works – as at best it’s confusing at the moment. If I am not going to support multiple countries, it’s not logical to want countries in a drop down list. Even though the states requested in the drop-down list are selected, these only work IF the country is selected in the drop-down list. Lets review: Starting with the Countries Tab. Countries and States/Provinces <b>Select Country</b> <The user selects the country from the drop-down list which should be the settings for the site> In fact it populates below states/provinces with individual item radio buttons. This should be all that is required to set EE for a single country use. (As the underlying text implied) You might want to try this: Do not set any country for the drop-down lists. Go to venues: You can type in the State the country field is blank (note page advice [“The country that is selected above will populate the Country Details settings and the options for States/Provinces. This information will be used throughout Event Espresso…], but you can manually enter the country. do an Update: Country is retained, State is replaced with “0” In my opinion, this is illogical Anyway, I have it working, just my suggestions to make it a little more clear for users. |
Thanks for sharing your opinion. We’ve found that the majority of users of Event Espresso actually need to support more than one country so that’s why there’s an option to set Country Appears in Dropdown Select Lists to be either Yes or No. |
