Urgent – Can't get event to be active – they all say upcoming and link shows 404

Hi, I set up a bunch of events last week that are currently selling. Today I tried to add another and can’t get it to change to active status, and now a bunch of the ones I set up last week also say upcoming, even though it says it is open for registration. The sale start is set to today or before, and the event is public. How can I fix this?

Hi,

That’s actually an issue from the Divi theme.

What you’ll do is go to your site’s Settings > Permalinks page. Simply visiting that page will restore your site’s rewrite rules for post types.

Hi again, I was able to solve this by going to the permalinks page and saving again. Thanks.

Hi, I am still having problems with this after I thought it was fixed yesterday. We have one event, https://novalda.com/?p=4215 that will not show unless I’m logged into WordPress. I’ve tried going to the permalinks page and saving quite a few times but the event still doesn’t show, either with the shortlink or the long link. What should I do? Am I supposed to temporarily change the permalinks to another setting and then back again, or just click save?

Hi,

It looks like you need to publish that event, is it saved as a draft and not published?

When you go to the Settings > Permalinks page, that will automatically refresh the rewrite rules. You don’t change the setting there or even need to save.

Duh, I should have checked that. It nows shows after I went to the permalinks page again. Thanks so much. I wonder if there’s a way to send those private page links to a special page that says something other than 404 error?

If you haven’t published an event or page (it’s still a draft), then technically that page does not exist for anyone not logged into the site as an admin. So they’ll be directed to a 404 page.

What you could do is customize your 404 page with a plugin like this one:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/404page/
