I am still running Version 3.1.20 and want to upgrade to the latest version of EE. Can I simply uninstall all the plugins and do a fresh install of all the latest versions? I don’t have any registrations in my upcoming events at this time.

Thank you for your help!

Yes, that should work.

If you want to do a really clean install, you can clear out the database tables to erase any other data and settings, but you might not want to go that far.

Actually, I would like to go that far. Is there a tutorial for a clean install? Can I simply export the data from previous vents an delete the tables (will the tables be recreated upon new install)?

Hi there,

There isn’t a step by step guide on how to remove tables from the database. Are you familiar with phpmyadmin? If so, you can drop any tables that have the word “events” in their name. Please note that many of the settings are saved in the WordPress options table, and we don’t recommend attempting to delete those.

So if you want to do a clean install, the steps would be:
1) Export all the old attendee data using the built in export tool, or by using phpmyadmin.
2) Backup the database (you never know.. you might change your mind one day and want access to the old event info)
3) Deactivate Event Espresso and its add-ons from the plugins page
4) Delete Event Espresso and its add-ons from the plugins page
5) Delete all files in /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates and /wp-content/uploads/espresso/gateways if files exist there. If you had made some customizations, these can be individually applied line by line into the new version’s templates, so you could back these up somewhere first and use these as a reference.
6) Download Event Espresso and the add-ons you want to use from your account page
7) Install Event Espresso and the add-ons you want to use. The events tables will be created on plugin activation.
8) Check the General Options, Template Options, and Payment options pages, these may need to be updated since many of the options have changed since 3.1.20 (mostly new features have been added), and the option settings are stored in the WordPress options table.
9) Be sure to enter and save your site license key (from your account page) on the Event Espresso>General options page so you’ll have access to 1-click updates.
