Upgrading an already purchased ticket not possible

We have opened a new seating area for our event to allow ticket holder to “upgrade” to preferred seating for an additional fee. Our problem is, since the website is on WordPress, any email previously used to purchase can’t be used to purchase additional tickets. We do not require the purchasers to create an account.
How can this be resolved?

How are you doing this with Event Espresso? An additional ticket purchase?

Our problem is, since the website is on WordPress, any email previously used to purchase can’t be used to purchase additional tickets.

I’m not sure what WordPress has to do with this, can you explain a little further please?

How can this be resolved?

Currently it is not really clear what it is you’re trying to do, or what the issue you’re facing is.
