Upgrade problems

I have been a long-time customer using EE since 2008. Currently on 4.10.45.p When I have tried to upgrade to any version over that, I get a database error and the site breaks so I have stayed there. Today, the promotions plugin auto updated to 1.0.17.p and broke the site so I deactivated it for now. Can I get some assistance in getting this upgraded and sorted out? I have a feeling that the new version of the plugin may not play well with 4.10 but really not sure. Thanks.

Do you have the error that is thrown at all?

The next version after 4.10.45 using our updates would be EE5. EE5 (any version) will trigger a migration as there’s a database change but I’ve not seen any reports of the migration causing an error so I’ll need the error to troubleshoot.

(If you are happy for me to do so, I’m more than happy to install Updraft on your site, download a copy of the site locally and test the migrations there to see what/if any errors are thrown).

Huh? Event Espresso’s update engine doesn’t currently support auto-updates.

Are you sure it auto-updated and wasn’t updated ‘normally’ by mistake?

The solution will be the same either way, I’m just curious how its autoupdated.

The new version of the promotions add-on you mean? Possibly yeah.

The recommended fix here is to get the site up and running with the latest version of core and then update any add-ons.

In looking through the threads, it seems some others are having issues with the promotions add on update with 4.10. Any progress in testing why the migration is breaking when we are trying to upgrade to version 5? Thanks.

Thank you. Turning off wordfence and deactivating all of the EE plugins before updating did it. You can mark this as resolved!
