I use Event Espresso for a charity event: http://www.take-off-for-kids.com. I used it last year, no problems. Renewed this year (upgraded) and it stopped working properly as it would not display event registration forms. I gave up after several hours of troubleshooting, deactivated the new version and reactivated the old version. The old version still worked and the new forms I created for this year’s event processed properly for many weeks. Last night I started getting an error “Cannot load events.” whenever I tried to update any event. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I am NOT a techie (which is why I like the product in the first place) and only look at this once a year when holding our event. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim.

Hi there,

Issues after updating are usually caused by having out of date template files (from a previous version) in the /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates/ directory. If you have modified templates in that location on the web server, they need to be updated to the new template files included with the current version of Event Espresso.

If you haven’t made any modifications to the templates, these can be removed. If you are not sure if there were modifications made to these files, back these up or rename that folder just in case. An example of this would be to rename the ‘templates’ in /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates to ‘templatesOLD’, so the directory would be: /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templatesOLD.

You’ll need to access the files on the web server using FTP or via the Host control panel file manager to manage these files.

The “cannot load events” issue was from a change in WordPress core in version 3.3. Older versions of WordPress will still work with older versions of Event Espresso.

Josh, thanks for your help. Here us what I did to resolve my issue. I don’t recall modifying any templates previously but I renamed the templates directory to eliminate that as an issue. Next, I deactivated the old version and reactivated the new version. I was then able to edit the event I needed to and the registration form is now displaying properly. I appreciate you.

I just followed the instructions and I am still getting the same cannot load events message…. including making sure the new version was activated

I am getting this figured out — the issue had to do with my site not being assigned to the right site license and upgrading wasn’t working – we are fixing it. Thanks
