Hi,
I am updating to 4.8.0 from 4.7.0 and have wordpress 4.3.1. Everything seemed to be going fine but the progress bar has been frozen at 33% for something like an hour. The last item it froze on is: “Migrated 1 records successfully during Pre-tax total line items”. I’ve copied the progress below. I’m unsure what to do because it says not to navigate away but it’s just not doing anything at all.
Luckily today was the last day we were taking sales for this event but the event is in two days and I need to be able to update my clients on the registrants and will likely be asked to resend some emails to some of them as well. As I’m sure you know I am completely locked out from anything but the Maintenance tab.
Can you please tell me how to proceed from here? Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated and thank you ahead of time.

I clicked on the “Maintenance” tab to open in a new tab and it appears to have picked up where it left off. Leaving the other tab open just incase and holding my breath. Hopefully it resolves.

Hi, thank you for replying so promptly. It was running alright until it got to 83% and crashed the server. I restarted apache to get the site back online and now it’s stuck at 83%. Now it looks like it’s not sure where it is in the migration or something.? Can you please tell me my next steps? The output is shown below:

I’m freezing the migration for now so I know the server won’t crash again. If you have any thoughts on how to proceed they would be greatly appreciated. I will be taking a nap as I’ve been working all night. zzz

When you say 4.8.0 you are using the latest version yes? (Currenty 4.8.9)
Did you have a large amount of registrations on the event?
I suspect you may have a large amount of incomplete/spam registrations that are taking alot of time to process during the migrations, I will request some feedback from our developers on this.
Did you create a database backup before updating?

I did make a backup but it’s a backup of the entire site and it’s a huge database. The server doesn’t run phpmyadmin so I’ll have to figure out some way to only update the ee4 tables via ssh or something. Never done that before. There were 213 registrations and something like 131 incomplete registrations. I was updating from 4.7.0 to 4.8.0 according to what the plugin is telling me.
Thanks again for the prompt reply. I have copied what the maintenance page tells me below:
Event Espresso has detected event data from version EE4.7.0 (Core) that can be migrated (updated) to work with version EE4.8.0 (Core).
Since you have already been using Event Espresso and have previous event and registration data in your database, you have the option to migrate, or copy over, this existing data into a format that is compatible with EE4.8.0 (Core).
It appears that your previous Data Migration Task (Core Data Migration to version 4.8.0) is incomplete, and should be resumed
The last data migration task (Core Data Migration to version 4.8.0) ran successfully without errors.
In order to import all of your existing Event Espresso data, the following upgrade task needs to be performed:
Core Data Migration to version 4.8.0

Hi Marah,
I suspect that there are a large number of junk line items which is causing this to take a while.
After restoring the backup, please use an alternative database tool like Adminer (a free WP plugin) to run two queries which will clear out those line items:

If needed, be sure to update the dbprefix if yours is different. Then try the migration again and it should move quickly.

Can you please tell me what tables to restore? I am not a database expert so can you also please explain what you mean by junk line items? Does this correspond to the incomplete registrations? Thank you for your help.

Hi Marah, you’ll want to restore the entire database prior to you attempting the migration. Restoring select tables is not recommended as information is stored in native WP tables along with tables specific to Event Espresso.
Did you by chance backup using a WordPress backup solution like Backup Buddy?

I can’t really restore the whole database at this point as changes have already been made this past day and people are making changes all the time. So I don’t have any options to just restore events espresso somehow? I backed up with a database backup script via ssh.
I’d think I could export the database while in maintenance mode so that no other changes were made, manually edit the ee4 tables but the database is so large that it doesn’t move very well via normal import export. The whole thing makes me nervous to be honest.

Can you please tell me what exactly you need? Do you need an administrator user account? I can certainly provide that but can’t really get you in via ftp because it’s sFTP with a public/private key.

Thank you so very much for fixing this. The event is tomorrow and people need to print their tickets so you have nearly saved my life. I love the product and am very happy with the support.
