I’ve been having an issue where the Upcoming Events widget is not displaying any events even when there are several upcoming events on the calendar already.
My settings are as follows – Event Category (‘Select value’ ie. not specified), number of events to display (2), and then No, No, No, Yes (display recurring events) for the rest. I did try to change category display to “Special Events” because we have one in that category for January, but still nothing displays. The website is elijahspromise.org.
Thanks for getting back to me. I am actually updating the website mentioned on a staging server and just checked — the updated theme I’m using seems to be working with EE upcoming events widget (same theme, newer version). Any idea how a theme might prevent the widget from working?
You might want to check with your host on this. I know in the case of WPEngine they use some aggressive caching for the production sites, which may explain with it’s working as expected on the staging server.

The calendar widget uses JavaScript to display events in a widget, and the upcoming events widget isn’t really loading anything dynamic, it’s pulling events from the database.
Can you try a quick test? If you add content to a simple text widget (just text, nothing fancy) on the production site then compare the widget on the front end while logged out of the site. Can you see a difference in the widget between being logged in and logged out?
