How do I hide past recurring events from my Upcoming Events widget? What is the point of showing past events that people can’t register for? |
Hi Paul, Do those past events still have a status of ‘Open’ in the event overview? The widget uses the events status to determine if it should be displayed or not. Open events will always be displayed. Were the past events created using the Recurring events manager? |

Yes. They are still open. How do I close them? Just delete them? Shouldn’t they automatically close after the event has passed? I know, likely I have a setting wrong someplace… |

I looked at the event page, and it shows that I have two different registration periods (I have recurring events module). I think my mistake is that I have the date to close registration in the first section to be a date in 2014. But then down lower, I have a recurring registration section that also asks for a close registration date. In mine, both of these are the same. I guess I set this up wrong for all my events. Is there a way to update all my events to change this, or do I have to delete the events and start over? What are the differences between these two separate sections? Could there possibly be more documentation or different labels to help us know what info goes where? I find that the recurring events manager is *very* helpful (in fact, it is the reason I went with EventEspresso in the first place), but I feel like getting events created and set up correctly is confusing. |
Hi Paul, I agree on both counts, REM can be very helpful and very confusing all at the same time. We are working on making it more user friendly. Its actually a feature that events can stay open past the event date (rather than a bug) but is obviously a feature you don’t require. There’s been a few iterations of this feature and we are trying to find the best balance. So to answer your first question
To close an event, set that events registration_end date to a date before today’s. That’s the quick fix for single events that should be closed (including events from a series) You can delete them if you wish but if you want to keep previous records it is best to do the above. (They are actually ‘soft deleted’ so marked as deleted but still within the database)
Yes this can all be fixed for a full series in one go you do not need to delete the series.
I’ll add a note that the documentation needs updating/expanding and will get onto it. The top date section http://d.pr/i/n9rs applies to that single event you are editing. The settings below are used to calculate your recurring dates (and are linked to the single events dates – just to confuse a little more) http://d.pr/i/EnYL I have emailed you referencing the specific events with details how to fix them. |
