An error has occurred:
Unable to generate preview because of invalid data
EE_Messages_Processor – generate_for_preview – 366

The above occurs in EE4 Premium after clicking on “Test Send” or on the Preview button for “Event Espresso – Editing Email Payment Received Template (Primary Registrant Recipient)” It still shows up when all the short codes and html have been removed from the various blocks.

the error shows up regardless of whether the recipient is the event admin or the primary registrant

WP v 4.5.3 EE 4.9.2.p

Hello,

Do you see the same issue when the message template is reset using this option in the messages editor for the payment received message type:

I tried that before posting. It does not resolve the problem.

Hello again,

There may be another plugin creating a conflict with the messages system.

Could you temporarily deactivate all plugins and then reactivate Event Espresso 4 and try testing the messages system again by sending a test email or attempting to generate a preview?

If it works as expected, then reactivate a few plugins at a time and re-test. Continue these steps until you pinpoint the source of the conflict.

Nice try. Disabling all plugins except EE4 and running the preview produced the same error. The problem seems to occur only with the Payment Received template. Both the default and custom template show the same behavior.

Thanks for the additional feedback. I’m unable to duplicate this issue so I have a couple more questions.

Do you have at least one payment option enabled in Event Espresso?

If you go to Event Espresso –> Messages –> Settings and then drag the payment received to deactivated (right column) and then restore it (left column), then does the issue continue?

Yes, I have a couple payment options enabled.
Activating payment received did the trick.

Hi there,

I’m glad it’s now working for you.

Could you let us know if the the payment received message was not in the active messengers section within settings to begin with? Then moving it from in-active to active fixed the problem?

Or did de-activating and re-activating that message type in the settings fix it?
