Transactions page isn't publicly visible on the web.

I’ve been having problems with incomplete payments with Paypal.

  1. I have a verified PayPal Business account. (I am not using any payment gateways other than PayPal.)
  2. I have activated the PayPal IPN option on the EE Payment Settings page.
  3. All of my EE General Settings pages are set to their proper pages on my site, and each of those pages has its proper shortcode. And their Visibility is set to public. Also I have installed the Exclude pages plugin as suggested and have unchecked each required page so that they are excluded.
  4. My EE transactions page contains only the shortcode [ESPRESSO_TXN_PAGE] (and nothing else), and its template is the txnpage.php template downloaded from the topic “Problems with Incomplete Payments — Download”.

Apparently (Josh said in the thread) that we should “verify that the transactions page is publicly visible on the web. You should be able to see this page without being logged in.” This page…

…comes up blank with just these words…

ID not supplied.

Thoughts?

Hi Peter,

The “ID not supplied” is the correct response when visiting that page directly.

Have you checked your PayPal settings in your PayPal account? Is the return address set to the correct url?

Paypal > Profile > My Selling Tools > Instant Payment Notification update link > Choose Instant Payment Notification Settings – add url and enable.

Thanks Dean,

I’ve checked my Paypal settings in my Paypal account.

The IPN return address is set to one of our other membership websites. If I change that, that other site will have a similar problem.

So what do you recommend I do?

By the way I have Paypal Business. I don’t enough about Paypal Pro, but can it accommodate multiple IPN return addresses for multiple websites?

Appreciate your help here.

Thanks
Peter

Hi again Dean,

I found this information, it may do the trick…

Thoughts?

Peter

Hi Peter,

The Event Espresso PayPal gateway will set the IPN listener URL according to the Notify URL setting in Event Espresso>General settings, so it should override the URL entered in the PayPal account settings. The important thing is that it is turned on.

So I’m not sure what to do now? I believe I have everything in EE as per instructions.

Even with the IPN page on my site with the [ESPRESSO_TXN_PAGE] as the only content and using the TEMPLATE ‘txn page’ still problems exist. See notification I just received from a registration below…

Hi again Josh, that’s strange, I’ve made no changes since this morning and since the last IPN failure (see above) but have just had a registration go through perfectly well. ????? Peter

Hi Peter,

This can happen with PayPal. We test it often, and I find that in testing, sometimes the sandbox will go down for a few hours. One time it stopped working for over 1 month!

This is one of the reasons why we offer so many alternatives, like Stripe.

Thanks Josh, so which payment gateway is the best in your opinion, keeping in mind I’m in Australia?

Hi Peter,

Eway and Merchant Warrior are included with Event Espresso and are supported in Australia. I don’t have enough information to say which one is better.
