is experiencing timing out issues. Even if I’m editing the site, I can be actively typing and the log in window pops up again and again…

I’ve looked into SEO page speed etc and there seems to be a lot of javscripts competing

Wondering what I can do to fix this as its really disruptive and frustrates clients

Hi Joe,

This is more of a general hosting/WordPress issue that isn’t specific to Event Espresso support, and you can find some solutions here:

https://codex.wordpress.org/Common_WordPress_Errors#Connection_Timed_Out

Thanks but I thought Iced Mocha theme was supposed to be the suggested theme for Event espresso???

Joe Mangrum

the vast majority of the plugins are Event espresso plugins?

Hi Joe,

Iced Mocha is not the suggested theme for Event Espresso, but that’s not relevant to your timing out issues anyway. It remains to be seen why your site is having timing out issues, and the guide I linked to will help you narrow down the cause.

We’re you able to increase the maximum execution time?

Dreamhost did and now the errors above are happening… I’m probably gonna get sued as today is the registration deadline

The errors aren’t caused by increasing max timeout, but they may be displaying now because someone activated display errors or left WP_DEBUG set to true. Can you edit the site’s wp-config.php file and make sure WP_DEBUG is set to false?

Joe Mangrum

I dont even see debug in this

  • This reply was modified 6 years, 3 months ago by  Josh. Reason: removed contents of wp-config.php file

Hi Joe,

I removed the contents of the wp-config.php file. That information should never be shared in a public forum, and you really should go and change the database password for that site now.

Before the /* That’s all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */ line, you can add the following to make sure PHP warnings are not displayed:

define( 'WP_DEBUG', false );
@ini_set( 'display_errors', 0 );

Hi Joe,

That last error is a feature of the WP User Integration add-on. You can read more about that add-on’s features here:

Ok so I think I have an insight to the frustration that I’m getting feedback about… Thanks for your help. The problem has been parents complain to my client and my client tells me in text form and she has no knowledge of how the site actually works.. obviously I’m no expert either

But the WP User settings are set as follows

Force login -NO
Auto create user -Yes

after going through and registering again after the bugs got worked out,
I went through 2x with the same email to try different events the 2nd event where i used the same email wanted me to log in

The problem is I was never sent user info or a generated password… There is a login area on the website but without a password it makes no sense…

shouldn’t there be an email generated for the user to set their password?
Am I missing a setting somewhere??

Always sync contact information with WP user profile? is set to Yes

Joe Mangrum

If I turned off the WP user plugin I would still collect all info of the registrations correct??

Event Espresso does a call to the wp_new_user_notification() function, so yes there should be some type of new user notification, but it may have gotten caught up within a spam filter or other means.

Am I missing a setting somewhere??

WordPress core doesn’t include settings for new user account notifications, but there are plugins that let you customize the email that’s sent to a new user account. Here’s one:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/bnfw/

It may be good to take a step back and ask your client if they really do want their customers to automatically get a user account when they sign up for events. It may be too much trouble for them to sign in to register for more events later.

Correct, the difference will be there will not be user accounts attached to registrations.

I think its creating friction on the site and yet the form is long so some like to have fields pre filled I suppose but dent a browser autofill do most of it??

the childs name etc may need to we are talking about a privilege class of kids and parents Upper east side NYC

Thanks so Much Josh for all your help its been a bit of a panic mode today so I appreciate your patience in working this out… I can see that we can export all registrations info and its also integrated to mailchimp so we dont really need the user integration I think it just adds a layer of confusion for people who would rather just fill in the form and be done..

Just on a closing note I have designed 3 sites with iced mocha, which used to be the recommended theme, Is there an known issue with the theme, I really like the slider option etc… I use it on my own site without event espresso

But moving forward I also see you do hosting and have themes but none seem to be similar to iced mocha is there a recommended theme with the slider options like iced mocha and if I continue to use iced mocha will it present problems??

I just made which uses the event espresso and iced mocha so better to know sooner than later

Iced Mocha is no longer being maintained. If you want to use a maintained theme that’s similar to Iced Mocha, you could use Tempera. Iced Mocha was actually based on Tempera.
