Tickets sold not matching registrations

For one of the events on my client’s site the tickets sold is not matching the registrations – they should always be the same.

I have 7 registrations (all accounted for in the transactions report) but 9 tickets are shown as sold. There are no incomplete transactions that I can see.

2 questions : how might this have happened and how can I fix the incorrect numbers so that 7 tickets are shown as sold?

Hi there,

That’s strange.

We don’t have a UI to changed the tickets sold as it should never be greater than the number of Approved registrations.

May I ask which payment method you are using on the site?

PayPal Standard. I know this can cause an issue because of IPN delays and I have asked the client to switch to PP Express, however I would expect there to be records of 9 transactions in PayPal if this had been the issue (even if the IPN didn;t work properly).
I’m an experienced developer so happy to fix the numbers in the database if you let me know where to find them.

We’ve seen similar issues with PayPal Standard and believe its caused by the IPN and the user hitting the site at exactly the same time, we added code to reduce the chance of this happening down as much we can but still get a few reports of it from users on PayPal Standard.

Ok, so to confirm, is it the DateTime sold value, the ticket sold value or both? – http://take.ms/Nh7UQ
