Hi, I am not a programmer.
Have been using Event Espresso successfully for 3 years. Suddenly today (without any updates or installs etc…) I saw a series of messages on my site that all basically said that I need to debug WP.

1.I reinstalled WP – latest version
2.I bought a new support license for EE and installed the latest version
3. The WP debug messages continued
4. I placed the site on maintenance mode
5. I now receive the following message when I try to register for an event:
“”The following errors have occurred:
There were errors creating the Event Espresso database tables and Event Espresso has been deactivated. To view the errors, please enable WP_DEBUG in your wp-config.php file.
A database error has occurred. Turn on WP_DEBUG for more information.
A valid Transaction was not found when attempting to update the model entity mapper.””

I received the following message in an email from WP:
“”
First, visit your website (https://www.evententry.co.za/) and check for any visible issues. Next, visit the page where the error was caught (https://www.evententry.co.za/wp-admin/post.php) and check for any visible issues.””

I inspected and deleted all posts.

Unfortunately I am not a programmer – that is why I reinstalled everything did not debug.

Any advice?

Hi Dougie!

Thanks for contacting our support.
We are sorry you are facing this issue on your website.

I understand how frustrated is to get a database error. In this case, the recommendation is to follow the steps below:

  • 1. Access your FTP (you can ask for help from your hosting company).
  • 2. Go to the wp-content/plugins/ folder and rename eventespresso folder which will automatically deactivate it.
  • 3. Restore the database backup (most of hosting companies offer this service, go ahead and ask for them) to a date when everything was working fine.
  • 4. After that, just delete the EventEspresso and download a fresh copy from your Event Espresso account to install on your website.

Let me know if it works!

Hi Joao
Thank you for your assistance and advice.
I followed the procedure but to no avail.
I then asked the hosting company to clean up cpanel completely so I can start over.
On the fresh install all was working fine until I installed EventEspresso. As soon as the plugin was activated and I clicked on any of the options under EE, then the following message is displayed on a clean screen:
——————-
There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

When I deactivate EE, then the site functions normal again.
I am making use of the standard 2022 theme.

Hi there,

So PHP7.4.29 should be fine, my guess is your site doesn’t have correct permissions to create custom tables within the database, but its really hard to say wit the information available currently.

If you add the snippet here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/troubleshooting-checklist/#wpdebug

To your sites wp-config.php file, it should show a more detailed error than the above.

Your site will already have something like define( 'WP_DEBUG', false ); in that file and the above snippet replaces that single line. Errors will then be logged to a location we can view on the site so please let me know once the above is in place and I’ll check the site again.

Hi Tony
I am grateful for the assistance, but as mentioned in my request-for-refund email I have already moved to a third party. It is therefore of no significance if I manage to get Event Espresso working again.

I hope you find it in order.
