I would like to do a test registration before making the Event public. I know how to do an “admin registration” from within WordPress , but am not able to register because I have set the “go on sale” date in the future (to prevent the public from registering yet). How do I test a registration before going public??

Hi there,
You could temporarily add another ticket to your event, then register for the event with that ticket selected, then delete the ticket when finished. Alternatively, you could create a separate, temporary event, then test the registration with that event, then delete it when finished.
