Our site is performing terribly slowly – constantly times out, payments do not complete because of the delays.

We’ve even changed servers, had to remove the mailchimp plugin (which is actually essential for us) and after a lot of investigation it seems like the table template plugin might be the reason.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Hi,

May I ask how many pages of the site use the table template shortcode, and how many events are listed on those pages?

Finally, are there any customizations made to the table template plugin’s templates?

Lots of pages. It’s how we display our events. We have a LOT.

Yes we made changes so that the layout was cleaner and provided more info.

In that case the slowing down is going to be expected because there’s a lot of querying to the database whenever that shortcode loads up a list of events. The customizations that involve providing more info will only slow things down further.

Installing a caching plugin could help (we recommend using WP Super Cache) because instead of hitting the site’s database each time one of those pages is requested, it will serve the page from a cached file. The other thing that could help is use a managed host that provides built-in caching.

We have caching installed but I think that’s affecting the registration pages because they are not working.

So what do you recommend for sites that have a lot events? We have at least 150 at any one time. Do you have other customers that manage this many?

That’s why we recommend WP Super Cache because it doesn’t affect the registrations pages.

We recommend they get sufficient hosting. An insufficient web hosting plan will usually result in a slow site.

Do you have other customers that manage this many?

Yes, and more, but their site is hosted where they can get sufficient server resources.

What constitutes sufficient hosting? My host offered a VPN but then said they felt it wouldn’t make a difference and that the hosting is not the issue.

I am at a loss. I can’t move hosts and servers if that won’t guarantee to fix.

I’ve turned off the cache plugins, but the ticket selector is still not working on regulation pages. Can that be a separate issue? Anyone else having this?

That’s a separate issue and we can help you figure out what’s going on with the ticket selector if you can be more specific (“is not working” doesn’t really explain what’s happening).

With regards to upgrading to a VPS, usually that’s a really nice upgrade so maybe your host can provide more details about how their VPS is an upgrade over their regular offerings.

A VPS is a big expense without a guarantee that it will fix the issues though.

How can I send you a screen shot? This is the message we get:

Nothing in your Event Queue
You need to select at least one event before you can proceed with the registration process.

However, it is triggering reservations – the events I am trying to book are showing up with these reservations and showing sold out.

The reset ticket/datetime function in maintenace doesn’t appear to be working so I can’t free up the registrations that were caused by my testing. The page simply isn’t loading (white screen).

I’ve alsp just switched to 2018 theme to test and got the same error message with the ticket selector.

Was there a WP update today that could have affected this? I don’t recall seeing it but everything is up to date on our site.

There wasn’t a WordPress update today, and the latest WordPress release would not cause what you’re seeing. The Nothing in your Event Queue error is usually the result of misconfigured caching. If you’re using a caching plugin other than WP Super Cache, or using built in caching, you’ll need to follow this guide in order to avoid errors caused by caching:
