Stripe Test Payments

Hello,
When I try to do a test payment with Stripe I’m getting an error message saying “Your card was declined. Your request was in live mode, but used a known test card.” How do I switch from live mode to test mode?

You go to Event Espresso > Payment Method Settings > Stripe and set Debug Mode On? to Yes.

Thanks, I’ve switched to debug mode in payment method settings, but now I get an error saying “Stripe Payment Method is in debug mode but the authentication with Stripe Connect is in Live mode. Payments will not be processed correctly! If you wish to test this payment method, please reset the connection and use sandbox credentials to authenticate with Stripe Connect.” What do I do here?

You’ll need to disconnect first, then switch to Debug mode (save the settings page so the gateway is in Debug Mode), then reconnect.

I tried to disconnect but nothing happens.

Set Debug Mode On back to No, then save the page, then you’ll be able to disconnect.

Hi josh,
Thank you. I tried it again and it disconnect and is now set to debug mode. When I try a test payment I receive the following message “You did not set a valid publishable key. call stripe.setPublishableKey()with your publishable key.” is this a stripe issue or event espresso? on my stripe dashboard I am in testing mode and have publishable test key and secret test key, showing up on the page.

May I ask after you disconnected, then set to Debug Mode, did you then reconnect?

I’m so glad it’s working for you now. When you’re ready to start taking real payments you’ll follow these steps:

  1. Go to Event Espresso > Payment Method Settings > Stripe
  2. Click the Disconnect button
  3. Set Debug mode On? to No
  4. Click the Update button to save the settings
  5. Click the Connect Button and follow the prompts to Connect to Stripe live mode
