I didn’t see anyone else write about this issue on the forums, so it may be unique to our instance, but in our state dropdown fields, the state of Maryland appears twice. Is there a way to edit the values – the interface tells me it’s a system field and can not be edited.

Hi Amy,
The values shown within the States are taken from your country settings.
Go to Event Espresso -> General Settings -> Countries (tab)
Select your country from the dropdown at the top and you should see a list of ‘States’ on the right.
Do you see Maryland twice?
If so you can either delete one of them, or set one of them to simply not display in the dropdowns – http://take.ms/kWHis
