Start date and attendees

Hello,

I am using the single-espresso_events.php – and I am using the function espresso_event_date to get the start date. Is there a way to get the start date without the time and get the time separate? This is based on a design.

Alongside this I know there is a shortcode for Attendees but is there a way I can do a custom query and loop of the attendees? and therefore I can spit out a count of them etc.
