Previously this was apparent by navigating to the checkout page and selecting the Squareonsite gateway. When the gateway was disconnected, the following error would appear
I’d created a monitoring script to ensure that I got as far as seeing the CC field appear.
The gateway became disconnected again, but now the error does not appear until I’ve entered a card number and attempt to submit.

Our team is already working in progress to find a fix to this problem. As a workaround for the moment, we recommend you reconnect the Square gateway payment.

When I see that notice in the dashboard, how has EE detected the issue? Is there an action hook I could use to at least give me a notification or log an error? Seems like this would be good to send an email about.
Unfortunately, there is no hook that you could use to give you a notification or log error yet. As I mentioned, our development team is currently working to have it fixed as soon as possible. We will let you know when we have more information.
