Hi,
We’ve been asked to create a new page for archived events by year (i.e. Art Exhibitions 2013, Art Exhibitions 2012, Art Exhibitions 2011).
I was using the following to make all past exhibitions appear on the one page:[ESPRESSO_GRID_TEMPLATE category_slug=EXHIBITIONS show_expired=TRUE order_by=start_date, button_text=””] – what do I put on each page to sort it out by years?

As far as I see it there are two broad choices here:
1) Give each event a category (e.g. 2012) and use the shortcode multiple times, once for each category. While more work going through previous events it’s the easiest option that doesn’t involve code.
2) Modify the template file to achieve this. You will need to actually change the code as you obviously will need to insert the dates. Something like this might be a good starting point http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/1656/display-posts-links-from-a-category-group-by-year
