We are also in the same situation and need the Dropbox files mentioned. Our site allows for multiple attendee registrations and the social coupon makes the entire purchase free. As Brad Hill emphasized, this is a SERIOUS bug that needs to be fixed for v4.0.
In the meantime, please update the Dropbox links to the files so we can modify the existing code.
The files were user generated, so not sanctioned or provided by us, and one file is no longer available (Josh had a copy of one which is linked to in that post).
The issue that you are facing is not a bug, but a limitation of the software. We are working our hardest on improving the options and flexibility of the discount system for future versions.
