This site is running painfully slow, can you please help. I am not a coder, but upgraded the php to:
PHP 5.6 (FastCGI) via bluehost.

I am still getting this warning when I login:
Event Espresso recommends PHP version 5.4.44 or greater for optimal performance. You are currently running version 5.4.43.
Not sure what else to do. Happy to provide a login. Many thanks!

Hi Nicole,

You can dismiss the option that displays the recommended PHP version. Usually Bluehost servers are shared hosting, is that the case for your site? If so, moving to a VPN will make it faster, which is something your host can assist with.

Can I be assured this will solve the problem? Client upgraded site last week ($200+) to move to VPS is additional $450. Might it make sense for you to take a peek at the site’s back end to make sure there are no other problems?

Hi Nicole,

Not necessarily because a peek at the site’s back end doesn’t tell us anything about what’s causing the slowness. We are not server administrators, we support the Event Espresso software only, and if your site is slow, there are many things that could be contributing to the slowness besides Event Espresso.
Do you have a specific concern with Event Espresso with respect to the website’s slowness? If so, please let us know the specific page (for example, is the registrations page running slow?) and we can assist in troubleshooting.

It is especially slow when you try to register.

Is it at the point when you try to select tickets, when the registration form loads, after you submit the registration form, or when you try to pay for a registration?

Not sure why, but the site seems to be operating at a reasonable speed now. Thanks for your help. I will reach out if things change.

Happy Holidays!

Hi Nicole,

If you find that the site slows down somewhat randomly, this could be because another site that shares the same server is using more of the server’s resources at the time. That’s where moving to a VPN can help, but you can check with your host to discuss the options they may have.
