Hi Guys, Can someone explain the best way of selling groupon/voucher codes for a ‘voucher system’ for clients to work with EE? Would using woo-commerce be the right direction? Anything on V4.0? Any ideas or light on this would be great please. Thanks. |
Hi bbradley, How are you today? Can you clarify for me? Do you want to allow people to purchase a voucher that they can then use for any event, a single event or what? |

Hiya Garth, Thanks for the quick reply. I’m good today, just trying to get another client on board with the EE experience. That is exactly what we’re after, to sell a ‘Gift Voucher’ of a certain value, to be used for any of the events with EE. Is this possible? Thanks. |
There is no existing system for doing this, so my idea might be. 1) Upload a bunch of voucher codes Note: each event will need to allow vouchers to be used: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/social-coupons-add-on/ |

Hi bbradley, There’s two options depending on the ‘promotion’ you are selling although neither of which are automatic (easily at least). 1) Create a Coupon Code (make it unique like 12 random characters) which would then need to be emailed to the buyer. A single Coupon Code can be used multiple times by anyone who has the coupon. This works if the promo does always equal 100% discount to make the ticket free but just offers a discount like 10% or something like $10 off with this coupon (can be any value). Problem here will be that the Coupon Code will be the same unless you want to create individual Coupon’s (will get complicated to manage rather quickly) 2) Basically the same but create Groupon Codes (Social Marketing). These work in a similar fashion but will always discount the full amount owed. Groupon codes will allow only one use per code and will then be marked as inactive. Groupon Codes can be selected rather easily if you know SQL as they are in their own table with no relationships to anything else. If using a single coupon codes for many you can basically just ‘sell’ an email which includes the hardcoded Coupon code. Actually this could be done through a hidden event with a custom email containing just the coupon, or again if your confident with SQL the next available ‘Groupon’ code. What I’ve seen in the past is to duplicate events, set the dates far into the future as waitlists and get anyone who wants to buy a voucher for a specific event (say for a birthday) to register onto that event. Then manually create a Groupon code for them to give to the other person, although that’s more manual work. |
