Quilting on the Beach

April 14, 2021 at 10:44 am

Hello,
Approximately half of my upcoming events have disappeared from my events page (basically the second page). I can see them on the admin site and they show as still active, but cannot be seen on the public site. They were visible on the public site previously, but now gone. I tried flushing the permalinks as recommended in a post but it did not solve the problem.
Thanks for your help!

Hi there,

You mentioned that the events were there previously, so I have to ask what updates ran recently?

I can see a list of events on page two of your events permalink: http://quiltingonthebeach.com/events/page/2/

I’m guessing there was a theme update that disabled the page navigation for some reason. You might want to check in the WP Admin > Appearance > Customize settings to see if any settings need to be updated.

Thanks for your response, Seth. Yes, that’s the page 2 that I am looking for. I was able to get to it through the link on your post but when customers go to the website they can’t get there.
I went to WP Admin>Appearance>Customize settings but did not see anything that needed to be updated.
Any other ideas?

Hi there,

I’ve just downloaded the theme your site is using and it turns out that it doesn’t display pagination links on archives (which is what the default ‘/events/’ output is).

You have a couple of ways to fix this, the simplest way is you can set the number of posts to display per page to a higher number so all your events display on a single page.

You do that in Dashboard -> Settings -> Reading

Set the ‘Blog pages show at most’ option to a higher number there and save. then refresh the events list and you should see that number of events. If you have 20 events set it to something higher than that to load them all.

However, that’s only going to ‘fix’ it when you have events lower than whatever number you set and means that your visitors have to scroll through them all on a single page (which may be fine, it depends on how you want them to display).

Another option is to add some code to the site to include the pagination links at the bottom, something like this:

https://gist.github.com/Pebblo/15ed8256b55409a0f43215045712f112

You can add that to a custom functions plugin on your site, we have some documentation on creating one here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/create-site-specific-plugin-wordpress-site/

That adds ‘page’ links at the bottom which link the user to pages like what Seth included above.
