Hi Gerrit,

Go to Event Espresso -> Messages -> Settings.

Set the ‘Generate and send message on’ settings to ‘On the same request’.

Then retest a registration and check the emails, are they quicker then? If not, the delay is not from Event Espresso but most likely from the mail server you are using.

To explain the above setting a little, EE uses a message queue system that relies on wp_cron to work through the queue. wp_cron relies on users hitting the front end of your site to trigger the jobs so if you site is low traffic that can take a while. The above setting tells EE not to use that system and to just generate and send the email on the request that triggers it (the users own request).

The downside to doing that is it can take a little longer for the request to go through.

We have tried this, as i saw a post that was similar. It is only the second attendee, the payment and first registration come in right away, it is only the other attendees that dont see an email for 4-5 hours? I will retry this method again ad report what we find.

Thank you

So all emails come in right away, unless it is going to Gmail, then it seems to take the 4-5 hours. I get Payment email and primary email to Outlook almost right away but not the gmail.

Thank you,

If that is the case, then it sounds like an issue with your mail server.

In short when EE ‘sends’ an email it basically just passes the email to wp_mail() which then sends the email using whatever our server is set up to do.

You can have a delay from EE as mentioned about with the message queue system on low traffic sites, but not if are using the setting I mentioned above as it skips it all.

Think of it in a similar way to a physical letter, you ‘post’ the letter into a mailbox and then the postal service does ‘whatever it does’ to get the letter from point A to point B and you have no control over how/when that actually happens. EE ‘sends’ an email by sending it to wp_mail(), after that it has no control over what happens with it or how long it takes to get there.

With the message queue system, it can take longer getting to the point of ‘sending’ the email, but after that it’s exactly the same.

The odd part of the above is that it’s only happening for Gmail.

The messages you are getting in outlook, are you 100% sure those are not the event admin messages?
