We are using Event Espresso version 3.1.36.5.P.
We would like to “screen” registrations before payment is collected. For my events, I have Default Payment Status For Event set to “Pending”.
We want to accept PayPal or checks, but only AFTER we have “approved” their registration. How can I do this?
Right now, if someone registers for a class and selects check, it goes to the pending status, and we can mark it paid later when we receive the check (great!)
But if we turn on PayPal payments, people can pay IMMEDIATELY with PayPal and it goes right to “approved”. I want them to be able to choose to pay via PayPal, but bill them only AFTER we approve them. (Or process the payment only AFTER.)

Hi Steve,
You can enable the attendee pre-approval feature through WP-admin –> Event Espresso –> General Settings:

Then you can turn this on for each event through the Event Editor.

Perfect, thank you so much for your help! That works great!
One followup question, how can I customize the final page that is shown when they register, before they are approved. (The page that says “Your registration is not complete until admin approves. Amount due: $X.XX Your Registration ID: XXXXXX”
I’d like to embed a survey on this page after the confirmation but I wasn’t sure what template/page to modify?

Hi Steve, that would be the pending_approval.php template file:

1. Login to your site with an SFTP or FTP client (filezilla and cyberduck are free options).
2. Browse to this location:
wp-content/event-espresso/templates
3. Download a copy of the file
4. Make your edits and save changes
We now need to move that updated file to a safe location.
5. Browse to this location on your site:
wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates
6. Upload your pending_approval.php file there.
