Hello,

On logging into WordPress/EventEspresso for a client recently, I saw the notice regarding the PayPal Standard Phaseout, and left it open to study later. Evidently my client closed it, and now I’m unable to find any information about it (including on EventEspresso.com).

Can someone please tell me when the PayPal Standard payment method will no longer work (so we know what our hard deadline is)?

I also recall the announcment listing off some recommended payment gateways. My client is feeling overwhelmed by the choices, so I was hoping to see that short list. I see EE recommends Stripe… is there a reason for that?

Any other top favorites so the client can comparison shop?

Thanks,
David

Hi David,

This is the initial message, and there will be other messages that appear if you’ve not transitioned.

=====

In early 2025 we will be deprecating the following outdated or obsolete payment integrations and ask you or your client to migrate to a new payment integration as soon as possible. Our replacement payment integrations offer more features and security.

The following payment integrations will be removed:
– PayPal Standard
– PayPal Express
– PayPal Smart Buttons
– PayPal Pro
– Braintree
– Payflow Pro
– Authorize.net SIM
– Authorize.net AIM.

Transition: Please begin transitioning to one of our PayPal Commerce, Stripe, Square or Authorize.net Accept at your earliest convenience.

To migrate to PayPal Commerce, simply go to Event Espresso > Payment Methods > click the PayPal Commerce tab > activate PayPal Commerce > and click the blue “Connect with PayPal” button and follow the prompts.

=====

It is easiest to transition to PayPal Commerce because that is included for free, but Stripe and Square are good add-on options too.

Stripe is recommended because it’s been reliable.

PayPal Commerce is recommended because it combines features from all the other PayPal integrations into that one integration, so it’s flexible and feature rich.

Does that help?
