Hello,

Yesterday I renewed my subscription for EE, and was met with a message that said that it is now strongly recommended that I utilize PayPal Commerce instead of PayPal Express. After connecting it to PayPal, I am now discovering that it is not possible to remove the “Pay Later” option with Express Checkout.

For what we are using for, the option to “Pay Later” comes off as rather unprofessional. I saw a fix was posted on this thread here, which is now closed for replies which is why I am forced to reopen the topic: https://eventespresso.com/topic/remove-pay-later-paypal/
https://gist.github.com/Pebblo/7469983cd09e8f8488e956fde99a6d09

However, even after adding the snippet to the child theme functions.php file, the Pay Later option is still there. According to that other thread, it’s been over a year since a request was been made to the dev team. Is there any official resolution to this yet?

Thanks.

I tried to checkout on your store to see if Pay later is existing, But it seems you’re having problem with recaptcha.

You mention you added the snippet to your child theme? do you have any error? Can you enable the WP debug for troubleshooting?

Check this article here, https://eventespresso.com/wiki/troubleshooting-checklist/

Thanks

Thank you for the quick reply. I went ahead and disabled Recaptcha like we have had to do in the past, have never got it to work properly. Probably because our domain includes a subfolder.

I also went ahead and selected only Advanced Credit and Debit Card Payments from Checkout Type since that is the only option that doesn’t include Pay Later, and I also like that folks aren’t redirected anywhere else to complete their payment. The website is also live so need it to look good today.

Hi there,

I went ahead and disabled Recaptcha like we have had to do in the past, have never got it to work properly. Probably because our domain includes a subfolder.

Using subfolders shouldn’t break reCaptcha.

What error was showing with it enabled?

What domain do you have set within your reCaptch keys on Google console?

I also went ahead and selected only Advanced Credit and Debit Card Payments from Checkout Type since that is the only option that doesn’t include Pay Later, and I also like that folks aren’t redirected anywhere else to complete their payment.

Is my snippet from above still active on the site? I can’t see it setting the option not to use paylater as a funding option (I know you’ve changed the integration option now, but if that snippet is still active it should still show in the source and it doesn’t, which could be why Pay Later options still displayed).

It may need to go in a custom functions plugin rather than within the themes functions.php file. I can troubleshoot this a little further but will need you to enable Expres Checkout to view it on the site.

However, even after adding the snippet to the child theme functions.php file, the Pay Later option is still there. According to that other thread, it’s been over a year since a request was been made to the dev team. Is there any official resolution to this yet?

Just to note, anything official regarding this would be just an option within the Payment method settings, however, that option would just do exactly the same as what that snippet is doing as that’s how PayPal allow you to set the parameters.

The problem with that is that PayPal is the one that controls what options are displayed and we can only… request… they don’t display it. We pass a parameter over on the request to disable the paylater funding option and its up to them if they follow that or not (annoying I know, but that’s Payal).

So part of the reason we haven’t officially included this within the PM options page is that we don’t technically have control over it. So say we provide an option to disable PayLater and then it still displays, it looks like a bug, but it is actually just PayPal choosing the ‘best’ funding options to display.
