Registrations failing to complete

I’m running WordPress v3.5 and just purchased Event Espresso (Business) last week, so that version is 3.1.29.1P, which I understand is the latest version. I reviewed the installation file, set up all of the general settings, and created a simple, sample event to try it out. However, when I attempt to register for the event via http://www.cpnaz.com/event-registration I’m not able to complete the process. I can see the event, click on it, and fill out the first page of info, but once I click “Submit” another page loads with “Event Registration” at the top and nothing in the main content area. I don’t get any confirmation emails (either as the admin or as the person that registered). When I log in as admin and check the attendee list I see that the registration went through 3 times, all at the exact same time. I need to open up registration for an event on Sunday, so I need this to be working. Can someone please let me know what I need to do to fix this? Thanks.

Hi Wayne,

What version of JetPack are you running?

There is a conflict between Event Espresso and Jetpack 2.0.4 that will manifest itself if either of the Publicize and Sharing modules are active.

Please see this topic for more details: https://eventespresso.com/topic/important-information-re-the-recent-jetpack-update-and-event-espresso/

Jonathan,

Thanks for the reply. I installed JetPack 2.1.1. I don’t know if the same type of issue exists with this version. I’ve already reviewed the topic you provided last night as I was trying to figure this out on my own. Unfortunately, it didn’t help, as there is no “deactivate” button to click on, as the topic directs. This is a screenshot of what I see:
enter image description here
Even after clicking on both “Learn More” and “Configure” I do not see a disable feature. For what its worth I have not enabled either of these features or set up links to any social networking sites. So again, what do I do at this point?

Hi Wayne,

You could download and install the pre-release of the next version of Event Espresso if you’re just setting things up/trying things out, because the Jetpack conflict issue has been fixed in that version.

Alternatively, you can deactivate the Publicize and Sharing modules by going to the main Jetpack admin page. They are enabled by default when you connect to your WordPress.com account. It’s kind of tricky to find the Deactivate buttons for the modules, but they will appear if you click the Learn More button for each module. When you click the Learn more button, the “Configure” button will transform into a “Deactivate” button.

Josh,

Thanks for the information. I was able to de-activate both the Publicize and Sharing modules as you described. However, the problem still persists. What else might be causing this?

Hi Wayne,

It could be yet another plugin. We have done some work recently on making the registration page shortcode more bulletproof when it comes to plugin conflicts, so you could try installing the pre-release version. You can opt in to the pre-release channel from your account page.

You could also try temporarily deactivating other plugins as well to determine whether it is a plugin conflict or not.

Josh,

I only had two other plug-ins installed and enabled on my site. The first was Akismet, which filters spam, and Jetpack. I tried disabling both, then attempting to register for an event. The problem persists. I think that means that its not a plug-in conflict. What else could be causing this to occur?

I wouldn’t mind trying the pre-release version, but this is a live site where I’d prefer to rely on a stable release to make sure things are working right. The post from Dean Robinson even states, “so we do not recommend using these on production sites, but they can be happily tested on local or development servers.”

Please let me know what else could be causing this. I’m rapidly approaching the deadline for this event and if I can’t get it working I’ll need to go with a different product to ensure the registration service works. I’ll wait to hear from you. Thanks.

It could be a theme conflict, which can be ruled out by test driving another theme like twentyeleven by using the theme test drive plugin.

Another thing you can do to find the potential cause of the breakage is turn on wp-debug by editing the wp-config file. You may get an error message that will help us find what’s breaking with debugging turned on:

Rather than download the plugin, I just switched the theme on the live site temporarily to twentyeleven. I was able to get to the next page. So apparently it is a theme issue. I’m using the Modernize theme from Goodlayers.com, which I thought was a pretty popular theme. What do I need to do to get this to work with my theme?

Hi Wayne,

Looking through some previous posts as GoodLayers (the theme developers) have cropped up before.

2 things to try:

1) Try wrapping the [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] shortcode in [raw][/raw] tags

2) Looking here https://eventespresso.com/topic/possible-conflict-with-template-need-some-help/page/2/ it is likely that if number 1 doesnt work then a code edit will be needed to either remove the code causing the shortcode to fail or at least modify it to work.
