The “unique” registration number EE creates for each registrant of an event is rather long. Two questions: Can I hide it? Can I use my own numbers, say, five digits? Thank you.

It is long to help it stay unique.
Where are you wanting to hide it from exactly? Depending on the location it might be possible.

You can add it to your theme’s functions.php file, or to the EE custom_functions add-on file.
