On or about February 21st, we stopped getting notifications about registrations for our event and cannot determine why. The email addresses haven’t changed. Need assistance asap. please.

Hi Rob,

If you go to test an email from one of the email Message template editors, do you receive the test? If so, it may help to go to Event Espresso > Messages > Message Settings and set the the option for emails to be sent on the same request.

If not, can you verify whether *other* emails (like a WordPress password reset email) get sent from your site?

You can install this plugin to verify whether the mail actually gets sent or not:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-mail-logging/

It’s important to discern whether the emails are actually not getting sent, or if they’re actually getting sent, but not received. If you find that they’re getting sent, can you check to see whether the emails are getting trapped in the spam folder?

In most cases, setting up a third party service to deliver email will resolve email delivery issues. The built-in mail servers (especially those that are used for shared hosting accounts) can be unreliable. We recommend using a service like Mandrill, Postmark, or any of the other services listed in our documentation for sending transactional email. More info here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/postmark-app-mandrill-transactional-email-handling-services/

Alternatively, you could also use a gmail account and configure a plugin like the WP Mail SMTP plugin to send the emails.

Did a test email, it was received. Changed to “on same request” but also confirmed the messages are not being sent. Can see every notification sent up until Feb 21st, then they stopped.

Can you clarify where you’re seeing the notifications sent up until Feb 21st? Is that the Messages Activity List table?

Please also check the To: fields of the message templates, and also check the active status. When you go in to edit a message template, this message will display when it’s active:

The template for Event Admin Recipient is currently active.

followed by a control switch to activate/deactivate.

Yes, in the message activity table.

Template is set to active and the “To” field has “[EVENT_AUTHOR_EMAIL]” And I’ve confirmed that all of the events* are authored by me, and the email address is correct.

It’s a conference that’s being presented as a live event, webcast and we also have exhibitors. Registrations are all separate and haven’t had any issues til this one.

I did a test registration (chose check payment) and it came through. Maybe it was changing to “on same request” that did it?

Hi Rob,

May I ask are support and updates activated for the website in question? Does it have the current version of Event Espresso 4?

No. My tech who installed the update was afraid updates to the plug in would potentially mess things up (apparently wordpress updates in the past have disabled the theme in use). I didn’t realize this was the case – if there’s no chance of this happening, I can activate them.

I activated them.

Possibly. When you choose check payment that will trigger the “Registration Pending Payment” message. If the other message templates like “Registration Approved” have the same To: field settings and are also set to “active”, then they’ll send to.

With regards to updates: We recommend keeping the Event Espresso 4 plugin and the add-ons, as well as WordPress core, up to date with the current versions. If your tech is concerned with breakage happening after an update, then the solution is to test first on a staging server, then update. Ignoring updates is not a solution and can potentially cause problems and expose your site to security vulnerabilities.

Hopefully. We’ll just have to wait and see if we get notifications; in the meantime, I told my staff to check the registration tables in the event espresso control panel daily. I will update you the next time a registration comes in. Thanks!

And I agree regarding updates. Thanks.
