Registration issues

We are having registration issues for an event on the website. Everything has been working great for several months and this week, we have had a handful of registrants who have been kicked off during the registration process or get errors during registering. Some are getting an error when clicking “Submit.” Others are getting kicked out of their browser during the process. And some are not getting taken to the payment screen, but are getting listed as registered in the admin screens. This seems to be isolated (for now?) to one particular event. Please let me know what to try or if something in this one event could be causing hiccups. If you’d like access to the back end of the site, let me know and I’ll send you and email with that info.

HI awolf,

What do you mean by “kicked off during the registration process”?

What errors are your customers receiving? Knowing the exact error would help uncover the issue.

Are the attendees who do not pay being listed as paid?

Have you installed/updated any plugins recently?

What version of Event Espresso do you have installed?

Garth,

“Kicked off” means the browser is crashing during the process.

They have simply reported “errors” – unfortunately, that is all they remember to tell us and they don’t leave the error screen up to report more detail. I know it helps to know exact errors, but they are not providing them to me either…

Attendees who do not pay are getting marked as pending in admin.

I haven’t updated anything since WordPress 3.5.1 release. It had been working OK since then and seems fine with dozens of other events. The issues seems to (for now) be isolated to one event.

We are using Event Espresso version 3.1.29.1.

This is the event that’s causing us issues: http://www.creativespiritsokoboji.com/?page_id=11&regevent_action=register&event_id=239

Hi,

I am not seeing any issues from my point of view, I got through to PayPal twice with no problems.

Do you know what browser these people are using?

Were they trying single or group registrations?

Did their names or details contain any unusual characters (punctuation or non latin characters)?

Okay, I’ve confirmed that the issue exists in Internet Explorer 7. However, I’ve tested this on our own testdrive site which runs a clean, vanilla install of Event Espresso and it doesn’t crash IE when I get to the confirmation page, so it’s something happening specifically on your site.

The issue does not happen in Internet Explorer 8, so it looks like it’s specifically a problem with IE7 and earlier.

The problem seems to be intermittent, though. I went back through to try to get a screenshot of the error and I was able to get through to the payment page without any problems. The first try it crashed right before the payment page after confirming the registration. If I had to take a guess, I’d say it might have to do with the apostrophe in the venue, but that’s a guess and could be completely unrelated. At any rate, it’s specific to the site, not Event Espresso, but you could try upgrading to the latest version of Event Espresso since you’re using an older version.
