update: i received a confirmation but it’s formatted awfully with hardly any event details.

in EE3 a custom confirmation was usually sent with all the details. how can i replicate that in EE4?

also, one more question – i recevied the Registration Notification with the Event Registration Details. how can i add the registrant email to this?

in EE3 all the attendee registration information was in the email. i don’t want to have to click the link to get the information.

Can you add a screenshot of the email here, please?

Go to Event Espresso -> Messages -> Default message templates -> Registration Approved -> Event Admin

Note that each individual message type has multiple ‘contexts’ in which it’s used so make sure you are editing the ‘Event Admin’ context, for more info see:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/messages-system-working-with-message-contexts/

In the ATTENDEE_LIST section, add the [ATTNEDEE_EMAIL] shortcode wherever you want the email to be output, for example – http://take.ms/jAnPq

There’s a lot of info you can add/remove within the message templates and various sections have different shortcodes available, but if you click on the icon to the right you’ll see a list of shrotcodes for each section.

in EE3, i was able to have a custom email template and i was able to include specific details about that event in a nice simple format. how can i do the same thing in EE4. some events require different information depending if it’s online or in person. is there a place i can put these details in the event and it just automatically will pull in the confirmation that goes out to the registrant?

Whilst you can create custom templates in EE4, it’s not the same as they were in EE3.

If you go to Event Espresso -> Messages.

Look at the tabs across the page and you’ll see a ‘Default Message Templates’, the templates in that section are what EE4 will use by default for all events, you can change the content of those templates to your ‘normal’ events and then create ‘custom’ templates that you select on events that you don’t want to use the default template on.

So one way to do this is to set up your default template for whichever event type you use more often (online/in person) and set the content of the default email to match that event type, then create a ‘custom’ message template and set that template on the other event type.

Where in the email are you wanting to add the details?

I tried to make a custom template and then test as a registrant but it didn’t work. still pulled the default one. i must be doing something wrong

this event http://www.accordantco.com/?p=5844

i want to add the total amount they paid and put a short custom paragraph right under the registration code.

May I ask, after you made the custom template did you assign that template to the event? The place where you make the assignment is within the event editor.

yes i assigned it to “approved registration” and it did not work.

Are you sure you are editing the correct context?

We sometimes see users editing one context and then checking another, for example editing the event admin context then checking the email sent to the registrant.

See: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/messages-system-working-with-message-contexts/

yes, i edited both the admin and the registrant context and it’s not working. can you please look at my event and check it? how can i get someone to help me? this back and forth is ridiculous. i’m trying to get this done quickly so i can add all my events. why do we pay for support if i can’t get a person to help me? is there another option besides this forum?

Hi,

Truth be told, we are people who are trying to help you. When we ask questions like “Are you sure you are editing the correct context?” we’re eliminating possible reasons why the correct email isn’t being sent.

We’ve also looked at your event, but looking at the event doesn’t explain why the custom message isn’t being sent.

What we could do, if you are willing, is we could log in to your site to check to see if the settings were set correctly. If you can complete the secure form on this page, we can investigate further.

Hi Krista,

I logged in an checked over the event settings, those are correct.

However, not all of you custom message contexts have been customized for that message template, the only context that has any changes is the Event Admin and those are working.

The datetime list showing ‘Class date’ – http://take.ms/lVQdu

Shows in the event admin context email – http://take.ms/WmheO

You need to switch to the other contexts and edit those (Primary Registrant by default is not active on reg approved, so unless you specifically want an additional email for the Primary registrant you can leave that disabled and just edit the registrant and event admin contexts).

Open your template by either clicking the edit button next to that template in the event editor and then selecting the context you want to edit in the switcher and switch to it – http://take.ms/qKDcl

Or, go to Event Espresso -> Messages -> Custom Message templates

Find your custom template there and click the link to edit a context directly – http://take.ms/1eXiy

i edited both the admin and the primary registrant context yesterday and they are both showing as active on my screen. are you looking at the Construction Accounting NYC template? what else do i have to do to make it active? i’m not following

Yes, I’m looking at the Construction Accounting NYC template, this screenshot here: http://take.ms/1eXiy

Is from your only custom message template, you see how the ‘Primary Registrant’ link is not active, that’s because that context is not active or set to send to anything.

The context itself is active (the green tab switch I assume you are referring to?) but there’s nothing in the ‘To’ field for that context, so it’s not actually active – http://take.ms/CJ5Oa

My apologies, I did miss a change in that context but as it’s currently not set to send to anywhere, you won’t see that.

You could add [PRIMARY_REGISTRANT_EMAIL] to that ‘To’ field to enable it and send that context, however note that a Primary Registrant is still a Registrant, so if you have both the Primary and Registrant contexts active, the ‘Primary Registrant’ will receive both of those, is that what you want?

Do you only want an email sent only to the primary registrant (and event admin), no others?

i want a confirmation sent to all 3 types. i’m new to EE4 so these confirmation templates are very confusing to me. i only have very basic html experience. how do i get all 3 active to the appropriate people? i don’t want the primary to get 2 confirmations. i would like it to go to the registrant as well as primary only once. what do i have to put in the to field to set that up properly?

Do you want to send different content to the primary registrant vs the other registrants?

If you enable the primary registrant context it’s an additional email for the primary, you can prevent that. You can just use the registrant context of it’s the same for all registrants.
