Hi, I have a UX issue which may be solvable with settings, lmk if so.
I have a ticket selector on my home page. Currently if a user just clicks on the register now button, without picking a ticket type, they advance to the next page which takes primary registrant details.
This causes some confusion for people who then fill that in and can’t get to a payment step afterwards.
Is there a way to require selection of at least one ticket type before the register now button becomes clickable?
The default behaviour for Event Espresso is to require at least 1 ticket has been selected before you can proceed, the button remains clickable but if no ticket selection has been mad a notice is shown on the page to state the user needs to select at least 1 ticket.
What is happening on your event is you have a ‘Primary Registrant Information’ ticket which has been set to required and then hidden using CSS, if I remove the style to hide the ticket is shows like this:
A required ticket will always have a minimum qty of 1 because it being set to required means it must be selected, so as that ticket is hidden but has a qty of 1 by default, the button allows it for the selection.
May I ask why you have a ‘Primary Registrant Information’ ticket set up it that way?
Got it. The reason I have it set up that way was because 5 years ago or whenever I first set this site up, the way to have one person sign up for multiple people was to use this workaround.
The use case is: Mom registering family for the event. 1 x adult 5k, 1x adult 10K, 1 x adult volunteer, 3 x kids 5K. So everyone needing different ticket types and then later on in the checkout, t-shirt sizes, but all with the same mailing address, credit card etc. So the user only has to enter the contact info once.
Things may have changed in the intervening years but that’s how we made it work back then. Users love it, except now I see the issue that I flagged to you.
