Register and Unregister

Hi,

Reading through this forum it now strikes us that what Jonathan Wilson at Presales promised us “If you are asking if people can register and unregister for an event easily, then yes.” isn’t possible at all?

We need to make it possible that people who register for an event (no payment charged) easily can unregister. Just like subscribing/unsubscribing a Newsletter.

How is this possible or is it only possible if “Waiting list” is used – or not at all?

We need to make sure that attendees who regret their registration easily can unregister to free up space for someone else to attend if an events only has room for a fixed number of people.

Please explain this in details.

Hello,

You will need the WP User Integration (Members) plugin activated. When a user is logged in and registers it tracks those events with that user.

As such they can then log in and either go to their profile page or to a page that contains the [ESPRESSO_MY_EVENTS] shortcode and easily cancel their registration.

If the user is not logged in, then unfortunately it will be up to the admin to resolve the cancellation as there is no way to track the user and therefore securely delete the correct event.

It doesn’t matter if a waiting list event is used or not.

Hi,

I don’t understand this. I have followed this: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/members-integration-addon/ setting an event to require “Full registration information” but when testing myself (not being logged in) I don’t get asked to sign up for a Membership when trying to subscribe for the event.

Also I still don’t understand why there’s not just an “unregister” link within the regular “Confirmation mail” when subscribing to an event. Just like any Newsletter function. Both event and attendee got an ID so it should be possible without having to use this WP Membership thing. That way people could just easily unsubscribe the event.

Thanks

Hi there,

When I said it would be simple to do what you are asking, I was referring to using WP User Integration. As Dean stated, when you have WP User Integration installed and activated, you can paste the [ESPRESSO_MY_EVENTS] shortcode into a page. When logged in users visit that page in their browser, they will see events they are registered for, and can unregister for them as well.

In order to activate registrations on your site, go to: Settings > General > and check “Anyone can register”. Then, when you set the event as a “Member’s Only” event in the event set up, the user will be asked to log in if they aren’t, and to register if they are not.

If you want to send an unregister link in the email, you can do this by adding the My Events link to the registration confirmation email in Event Espresso > General Settings.

Let us know if we can help with anything else.

Hi Jonathan

Right I follow you now.

Using the [ESPRESSO_MY_EVENTS] on this page: [REMOVED BY OP REQUEST] it seems to conflict with my Theme layout. Notice the white glitch above the blue top-border + the yellow line above the Signup From Widget. Compare with any other page to see what the page is supposed to look like. Bugs?

Please remove my link from this thread.

Thanks

We cannot view the page as it’s for logged in users only. Is it possible to make it public? We have a note of the link, so you do not need to repost it.

Hi

It shouldn’t be logged any longer.

One more question. This text doesn’t seem to be part of the “event espresso” .PO file – so how can be translate it? If not manually – but then it will be overwritten with next update?

You are not logged in.

Before you can reserve a spot, you must register.

If you are a returning user please Login

New users please Register

Hi,

It still wont let me in, perhaps send over login details as it looks like I’ll need to be logged in to view it correctly, please send them via https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

Regarding the Poedit stuff:

If you are a returning user please Login – I can’t see that, where does it say this?

You are not logged in. – is in the translation file
Before you can reserve a spot, you must register. – is in the translation file
New users please Register – is in the translation file but the words “new users please” and “register” are separate so you need to look for both.

Hi,

The site is no longer password protected, and if so the password is: testdemo

The layout problem is here. Don’t mind the “Being logged in” as the layout problem is the same anyway. The [ESPRESSO_MY_EVENTS] shortcode causes the Theme layout to f**k up: *moderated*

The problem with the .PO text is here:
*moderated*
when assigning a “Members only” event. How much of this text is in the .PO file and if not all – where do I find it then in order to translate it – and what will happen when you send out an update? It will be overwritten then?

Please remove my links from this thread.

As mentioned I) will need login details to view this problem, please send them via https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

Thanks for the feedback on that. OK, so the phrase “If you are a returning user please ” is not marked as translatable. I will raise a ticket for that. The rest are translatable and can be found in the PO file.

If the PO and MO files are in the uploads/espresso/languages/ folder they will not be over written on update.

Hi,

Thanks for that, I simply didn’t notice the glitch earlier.

It seems the theme has a class of the same name as we use so on that page it is causing an issue

You could add

.page {
margin-top: 0 !important;
}

to your style.css file or a plugin like My Custom CSS, that should sort it.

Same for the yellow bar:

div.updated {
border: none !important;
}

Hi Dean

Thanks, that helped. I’ll get back regarding translations. Have to look into it later.

Could you please remove my links? Or why is it not possible to post hidden links to your Support as none of us are interested in sharing work in progress with Google and the rest of the World.

I’ve removed your links.

We have a Private message feature but it’s reserved for VIP subscribers.

Google bots are not logged into the site when they scrape the site, so the only content they have access to in the forums is the first post. Replies can only be viewed if you are logged in.

It is possible to send support links via our contact form. Please be sure to include the link to the support forum request so we know where to follow up.

There is also a link shortener tool that has a feature that lets you set an expiration time for links. It’s very handy for cases where you post a link but want it to expire after a few days or so:

The .mo file is the one that needs to be uploaded.

Hi

Sorry! I must have been having brain-fog or something. Of course!
But still I have to edit this line manually: “If you are a returning user please” as it is not part of the .PO file?

When will it be that and how do I then at the time include it in my translated version of the .PO file?

I don’t when the string in question here will be updated so it’s translation ready. There’s an open ticket to fix it and if all goes well it will be in the next release of the WP User Integration add-on.
