Is it still the case that you can’t actually issue refunds via admin?

There are ‘apply payment’ and ‘apply refund’ buttons when you view a transaction, but I read in a previous post thatthis just updates the database, it does not actualy connect to the paymnet gateway.

This means to take a payment or apply a refund, you have to seperatly log into the payment gateway … which is far from ideal!

Can anyone confirm if this is still the case please?

If so … is this on the roadmap, as it can’t be too hard to add this feature surely!

Thanks guys

Hi there,

The payments and refunds that you can add within a transaction allow you to keep a record of any manual payments/refunds added to the transaction but does not communicated with any of the payment methods in use on your site, so yes this is still the case.

We do have an open ticket for this and have discussed this feature in the past however it is not currently on our roadmap.

In terms of refunds made by users for some payment methods it could be fairly straightforward to add, others its not and then some don’t support it at all.

For payments it’s not really a question of how easy the feature is to add. Most payment merchants provide a ‘Virtual terminal’ feature specially for manual payments and would expect you to use that rather than your standard payment pages (again those virtual terminals will not automatically update EE anyway as they don’t support it).

You could use the payment links available within Event Espresso to navigate to the front end as if you were the registrant and apply a payment through that. View the Receipt for a registration by first viewing the Invoice and then using the switch button at the top to view the Receipt, at the bottom of the Receipt is link to pay which takes you to the front end of the site and shows your payment methods.

Using the above will create a payment within the transaction that will update correctly with the payment you make through your payment provider. However note that most payment providers frown on you doing this which is one of the reasons we don’t provide that functionality within the admin at this time.

I clear explanation and I accept the points made.

It’s really for refunds which I was hoping it was possible, as it would be nice and ‘clean’ to abe able to refund against a transaction from within the backend … but I get that this isn’t going to be possible

Thanks for the prompt reply

Ian
